I got my first batch of iTead Studio boards in! iTead Studio is a pcb printing shop that offers absurdly cheap prototype boards. The new boards look great. I’ll definitely use them again. It only took 2 1/2 weeks to get here. For the price its an awesome service.
The particular board shown is a carrier board for the RN-42 Bluetooth modem, which is only $15 from Sparkfun if you buy it in its surface mount form. For another $15 I now have
10 12! carrier boards that allow me to adapt the surface mount device to through hole technology as well as control infrequently utilized device specific features such as factory reset, BT Master mode, force 9600 baud and more. The more you know the cheaper electronics gets.
The carrier, populated with the modem, etc., is destined for the GyroSkirt. The idea is that I’ll be able to adjust the gain and deadband processing on the gyro sensor reading wirelessly from a program on my Android phone via the Bluetooth radio in my phone and one of these boards affixed to the GyroSkirt driver. The GyroSkirt will again be driven by an Arduino, so I hope to leverage the Amarino library to speed my development time.
I am doing a similar project. What i want to do is connect the RN-42 modem to my breadboard and use my android smartphone to connect to the RN-42 modem and send some ASCII values that will result in moving the motor of my robot…So will the RN-42 modem be helpful in that case?
Yes. The RN-42 is pretty good for that. I am also planning comm between an Android and an MCU.
I’m needing a carrier board for my 2 Bluetooth Modules (RN-41 & RN-42). Did you order the one shown in the picture at iTead? ‘Cause i’ll be looking for them in their web site, but couldn’t find any. How about the price?
I’ll be SO glad if you help me find them! , pls!!
Yes they were from iTead. But there is an error in the boards. The LEDs are hooked to the wrong rail. So the connection goes out when a connection is established and turns on when the connection is lost. Are you sure you want them?
Actually, just give me a day or two and I’ll fix the rail thing and upload the fixed diptrace and gerbers here. Its not that big a change. I just need to scrap paint today or I’d do it now.
Well, not sure jejeje. Guess i prefer something working normally, it might be a source for error, if ,by the way, i forget that the connection was wrong ahahah.
It’s Ok, i’ll wait for it. Thx a lot!!
I have updated and uploaded the files for you. You can download that zip file to get the Gerbers and the NC Drill files that you will need to send to iTead. To avoid confusion you should probably send only the .gbr files and the .drl file. The two remaining files are the original Diptrace design files. I included those so that you can change something if you need to.
Here is the link to the post where I have uploaded the new files.
You’re awesome!! Thx a lot =D
Sorry for the late reply, got a lot of work this week =/ .
as soon as a i get home, i’ll take a look.
Have a Nice day!
